Newtown Blues U14 Boys team 2012

posted 14 Jan 2014, 13:37 by Orlaith Nugent

What a great year for the Newtown Blues U14 Boys team. They reached the final of the Feile Competition 2012 representing Louth in June and the season hadn't even started for them. They have just added the U14 League and Championship titles to their list of achievements for 2012 coming up trumps to fight off Dundalk Gaels in a tough championship match in Darver on Mon. 1st Oct. to retain the Peter Judge Cup 2 years in a row. It was sheer determination and team spirit that kept these lads going until the final whistle and credit to the team and management for a great year. And where would any team be without their supporters that travelled in numbers to Darver on a chilly Monday evening to get behind the lads for this final hurdle for 2012. Well done boys you deserve it! For a full match report on U14 Championship click here

Jimmy Mulroy ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam

posted 6 Mar 2013, 10:49 by Orlaith Nugent

The Newtown Blues say goodbye to another legend of the club and county with the passing of Jimmy Mulroy today 12th Feb. 2013. Our thoughts are with his wife Chris, daughters Caoimhe & Christine and son Cormac at this difficult time. We are proud to have had him as a member and his legacy will never be forgotten. Let's remember him in all his glory.

Before joining the Blues Jimmy played street football with Bothar Brugher.  In his first year in the Blue jersey the future star won a minor and a junior championship medal.  He was a versatile performer who could and did play in every position on the field.  Jimmy was a perfectionist who put a lot of thought into his play.  While the old traditional No 3 favoured brain mussle and brawn, Jimmy done a better job with skill and brains.

Over the years the future mayor and railways cup star played countless outstanding games but none better when winning his 9th senior championship medal in 1974.  Jimmy was a credit to his club, the suprime sportman and a gentleman on and off the field.

All Ireland junior medal in 1961.

He was an outstanding player through the most successful era of Blues history.

Jimmy ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Great night was had by all at the Gala Ball in CIty North

Well we ended the year on a high note with Michael Lyster taking us through the 125th celebrations at the Gala Ball in the City North Hotel on Sat. 10th Nov. We had a great turnout and the style was fab along with the entertainment from Electric Avenue and a wonderful meal. Thanks to all the organizers for a great night and a special thanks to Brien Phillips chairman & Aisling Murphy secretary of the development committee for all their great work during this busy year.

The followings awards were presented on the night:

Minor Player of the Year 2012- Conor Barton
Senior Men Player of the Year 2012- James Murray
Ladies Senior Player of the Year 2012 - Maura Lynch

This year we had a Special Recognition Award presented to Margaret Phillips for all her hard work getting the Ladies section of the club started in 1999 and getting it to such a high standard. This year alone we had 4 Blues ladies representing Louth in the All Ireland Junior Final earlier this year and this part of the club is going from strength to strength.

The Newtown Blues presented 4 legends of our club's history with a special award. Jim 'Blackie' Judge, Liam Leech, Jimmy Mulroy and Matt Murphy all recieved a memento on their wonderful achievement of being in possession of 9 Louth Senior Championship winners medals. This record is unlikely to be ever broken. The award was presented to them and their families.

Thanks to all that have supported the club this year and we look forward to another great year in 2013.

Pics to come soon.
