Newtown Blues 4-8

Dreadnots 1-6

Monday evening saw the Blues minors make the short journey to Clogherhead  to take on local rivals Dreadnots.

Both teams had to contend with some very strong winds but they managed to produce a fine game of football. The Dreadnots started brightly and with help from the wind took a 0 – 3 lead .The Blues began to adapt to conditions and found their range with some fine scores from Robbie Carr 0 – 1 and Rory Everitt 0 – 1.With confidence running  through the team the Blues started to take control and after some very good defensive work from  Jason  Maguire and Dean O Neill the ball reached Robbie Carr who finished well to the net. The teams swapped scores but then The Blues pushed on and thanks to another fine display in midfield by both Rory Eveitt and John McEneaney they added a further 1 – 2 before half time. The blues led 2 – 4 to 0 – 4 at this stage.

The second half began much the same and after a fine team move Cormac McQuillan scored a great point from play before Sean Doherty got in on the act by scoring his second goal in two games. The Dreadnots tried hard to rally but found Chris Reid ,Leigh Synott and Ciaran Clarke impossible to break down while in goal the excellent Graham Rooney was only beaten by a late penalty. Up front Conor  Parkinson,Podge Leddy and  Shane Byrne worked tirelessly. In the end the Blues ran out easy and deserving winners and registered their first league points of the season
