U8 Boys & Girls Match Reports

U8 Regional Blitz

Date: 17th July 11am
Venue:Newtown Blues

Despite holidays and a slightly damp windy morning a very enjoyable blitz for all the U8's in the Blues. They played the Glenn Emmetts, Fechins and the O'Raghallaighs. Unfortunately the Tones were not able to attend and the Fechins had just one team with holidays but all teams played 3 matches. The Blues started off slow just about fielding a team having to call on Conor Mac Críosta to make his debut blitz and stand in goals for the first  part of the Emmetts game. Luckily the troops arrived and the team picked up the pace. There was great passing and chasing down the ball. Rory Mulroy made some fantastic saves in goals and we had some great runs from Conor Mac Namara and Ciara Nic Críosta. Emmett Murray worked hard in the backs and held tight on the ball keeping well earned possession. Ronan Geehan worked really hard as usual stopping the forwards breaking through to the goals and made some great passes with some long kicks up the field to his team mates. Ryan Dunne had another great save in goals and then a great block in mid field that had him seeing stars but he soldiered on to make a great break through and fist a lovely point over the bar. Emmett and Ciara both scored great goals from frees. Coinneach passed up his sick bed to get stuck in and had a great time in goals with great kickouts and some lovely mid field work making some great tackles and passes. Dylan McAvoy is proving to be a force to be reckoned with winning some great ball in midfield and making some great blocks. He also protected the Blues goals really well in the backs with himself and Conor Mac Críosta putting in great tackles. Conor Mac Namara ran really well covering a lot of pitch to help his teammates out of trouble catching some great balls and unlucky with some point attempts. Lily Murphy and Billy Irwin played really well, Lily kicked some great ball right on target to her teammates and Billy just came up short on scoring opportunities a number of times but there is a couple of scores ready to come out one of these days. Well done all and thanks to all the teams for attending and to the O'Raghallaigh's young whistler for stepping in to help officiate.

U8 Regional Blitz

Date: 19th June 11am
Venue: Naomh Martin, Monasterboice

The Blues travelled to Monasterboice for the U8 blitz. There was great attendance for the Blues who had originally only entered 1 team but some of the eager U7 increased the numbers. However, as luck would have it for the Blues, Hunterstown Rovers didn't travel so the Martin's allowed the Blues to split into 2 teams. It was great to see all the kids have a great run and lots of fun. The Blues A  had tough competition against St. Finbars A in their first match but Conor Mac Namara did some splendid fielding in midfield and provided some great passes to the forwards and some great points. Rob Whelan did a great job in goals in the first half followed by Lily Murphy in the 2nd half of this match. Both providing the Blues with great kick out's right on target to the mid field. Emmett Murray and Luke Bannon were another pair that ran their hearts out putting in some great tackles and passing really well to their team mates. Ciara Nic Críosta was just back from injury and played well but was still a little cautious on her ankle. She put in some great tackles and passes. The dynamic duo of Emran Moustafa and Dylan McEvoy are a pair to be reckoned with, especially when they are playing in the backs and they made it difficult for St. Finbars to get past. Overall this was a great team performance for the Blues A team.

The Blues A went on to play the hosts Naomh Martin A in a tough and challenging match. This was certainly a physical match with both teams challenging the ball really well and making sure you worked for each score. In the end the Martins managed to lead with the score but the Blues made sure it was well earned. It's great to see the teams bonding together and starting to play together so well.

The Blues B played 3 matches against St. Joes B, Martins B & St. Finbars B. The team consisted mainly of U7's displayed played really well together. Ronan Geehan and Coineach Farrell ran hard chasing down every ball, along with Lennon McCormack. Lennon also made some great scores giving the Blues the edge in 2 of the 3 matches. Adam Butler did a great job getting to the ball also and made some great efforts at goal. Keane Kavanagh Smith made his debut along with a most of the other U7's and displayed great potential for the future. Liam McCormack and Billy Irwin are another tough bunch to get past and put some great tackles in along with great passing. Aaron Kelly showed that he is ready for matches now getting stuck in and with his great left foot made some great kicks. Rory Mulroy worked hard too also making some great passes and attempts at goals. This was a great day out for the team and it was great to see them all having fun.

U8 Regional Blitz
Date: Sun. 22nd May 11am
Venue: Lannliere, Dunleer

The U8 team travelled to Dunleer on a blustery Sunday morning to meet the O'Raghallaighs , Lannliere and the Joe's. It was a tough first match against the O'Raghallaigh's who dominated this match with some very strong players that the Blues were not able to stop. The Blues bounced back against the hosts Lannliere with a well contested match that the Blues managed to win. The Blues had some great scores from play along with some great passing. The team had a short break due to a heavy shower and then had their last match against the Joe's. This match was another well contested match and both teams benefitted from the wind leaving the final result level.
It was a great morning for the players and they were very well received by the hosts.
